Australia KGV 1917, 1d Red Variety 4/34 (Rusted Cliche) in pair with 4/33 on piece in Fine Used condition with no faults. Off-Center to the right with a circular datestamp cancellation (SYDNEY 6?, 20th February 1917) well clear of the variety. Some very minor crumpling of the top right corner perforation but close examination front and back shows this as a very sound and lovely example of this highly sought-after 1d Red variety. Hard to find like this with the cancellation well clear of the rust flaws and to have a dated postmark is a nice bonus. As noted in the Australian Commonwealth Specialists' Catalogue: KGV, 2014, dated examples are known for the period November 1916-January 1917 (refer note 7 on page 4/81). This item is dated 4th FEBRUARY 1917, so this piece is one of the later known dated examples of a Rusted Cliche. My assessment of the shade is Aniline Scarlet (BW71I). Nice exhibition piece.
